Sure I know I’m lucky to be alive and I do cherish that. But the fact of going thru so much and still having health issue every time I think I’m moving forward away from being the “sick person”. I have felt alone in those thoughts, thank you for sharing a lttile of the world Iam now seeing that I’m not crazy or alone in my head. Until the person next to me, the person who responded to the news of my ostomy when we first met with a poop joke, responded with another poop joke. The kind that made me laugh so hard that all the ugly tears shook off my face. And as he wiped the remnants of them away, he reassured me.
Patients are asleep and under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes a large cut in the abdomen so that one end of the colon can be placed through the hole and attached to a stoma on the abdomen. The surgeon then attaches a colostomy bag to the stoma. Sometimes, a surgeon performs an ostomy procedure with the idea the ostomy may be temporary. This may be the case for patients with some forms of cancer or who have experienced abdominal trauma.

Something finally clicked when one of my best friends addressed it with me for probably the 50th time. She told me I was making too big of a deal out of the whole thing, and anyone who loves me will love ALL of me, parts that are less sexy and all. She pointed out that, “if he can’t handle this, which is so small, what will he be able to handle?
Could sure use some input on the subject. When do you tell a prospective date about it? The 2-piece system consists of a base-plate attached to the skin with a removable ostomy bag. Although it is very durable and long-lasting, it requires an amount of skill to use and has a weaker adhesive and does not fit very well. The one-piece system consists of a single unit wherein the skin barrier and the pouch are joined. It is simpler to use but must be replaced every 1 to 3 days.
Robyn spent part of the meeting giving advise as to how to take special care during the hot and sometimes humid summer months. She also had special advice for those who take part in summer outdoor activity including swimming and making use of hot tubs and how those activities can effect wafer adhesion. My ostomy has given me 8 more years so far. I’m having a great time and am sooo happy that I have mine! You will be happy too eventually, so my advice is to get a jump start and really work at being happy.
It has no nerve endings and doesn’t have any sensation. Once the surgery wound heals around the stoma, you won’t feel it. In an open surgery, the surgeon uses one long incision to open up your abdominal cavity. This the traditional way to access your abdominal organs, and it allows for better access, which is sometimes required.
What can you not eat with a colostomy?
Some may need to add convexity immediately after surgery, while others may not need to add it at all. There is no concrete rule, and it depends on the type of stoma you have and how well it protrudes. If your belly is soft enough, you can start right away. Again, it’s important to prevent leakage while keeping the skin around your stoma healthy, and trying convexity could help accomplish both goals. Your ostomy pouch is a heavy-duty plastic bag that you wear outside your body to collect your stool.
If you have itching or leakage, change it right away. If you have a pouch system made of 2 pieces you can use 2 different pouches during the week. This moment of oh shit in my mind as he was staring at me, half laughing, shocked to be put on the spot. The disease, the surgery, and the bag I’ve had for several years. My husband has had the first part of the j pouch reversal done in February 2014 and now we’re just waiting for the second step, the final hook up. Just wondering if anybody out there has any helpful tips for him, and what he should expect after surgery.
But it does have to start with you, I recently had a very ” strange experience” with a relatively new date.. We went out a few times, had lunch and dinner, and talked a lot. I told him about me….and my stoma, and it didn’t seem to faze him. He never said a thinng about himself…..so I wasn’t prepared for our first sexual experience.. I’ve been with men who are ” large” small…..have ED issues, and it’s never interfered.. If you’re already getting naked, then you would think that one would discuss any potential issuess….
